BUILDING YOUR PROFESSIONAL LOOK

You have worked hard to achieve the success you have today. We live in a high competitive world where every facet of a person counts. Not only your knowledges and experience will take you further. Putting attention on cultivating an executive wardrobe will accentuate the professional image that supports your goals. Not only is essential that important first impression that we all know, it is equally imperative to maintain or even improve that first impression made on others over the time.

Your image is one of the most important contributing factors in business.  As a professional, everyday you probably plan your day and what you want to accomplish with your time.  Give the same consideration when planning your attire.

Our clothes, grooming and body language are seen as clues to our character and personality. Creating a good impression is all about managing these clues to encourage others not to focus on our packaging but beyond it, and pay attention to you and what you have to offer.

If you present yourself as capable, confident, reliable person, others will respond to you accordingly.

Therefore, everything you wear, say and do should be:

- Appropriate to the situation, circumstances, people in attendance, climate.
– Enhancing to you as a person – physically and personality.
– Goal effective to what you want to achieve.

For you image you will be judge by others:

- Credibility: the level of believability, trustworthiness and competence you portray.
– Likeability: how much you are like “them”. How friendly, easy to get along with and approachable you are.
– Personal Attractiveness: Are you making the most of your physical attributes?

– Confidence: How self-assured/confident you appear to be.

Follow the next tips to build an effective executive wardrobe that will convey confidence and competence, and enjoy your success!

1.- THE RIGHT IMAGE FOR YOUR WORKPLACE

Within many professional environments, there is a silent but precise standard of dress. Knowing what is considered appropriate for your environment will ensure that you give the right image for your job and do not make any expensive mistakes when building your wardrobe.

Keep this in mind when visiting another office that might have a different business dress code than yours.

Be sure you build outfits into your wardrobe for each activity. If you look uncomfortable doing your work because your wardrobe selection is out of place, you will not be taken seriously on your job.

2.- CLOSET AUDIT AND BASIC PROFESSIONAL WARDROBE REQUIREMENTS

An effective executive wardrobe wardrobe is composed by:

PROFESSIONAL WARDROBE FOR MEN:

- 3-6 suits, at least one in dark charcoal and one in navy.

– 12+ dress shirts, 2-4 white and the rest in iced pastel solid colors or patterns (stripes, checks).
– 10 ties in current, conservative patterns no larger than 1 1/2″ diameter.
– 3-3 pairs dress shoes, black, dark brown or cordovan, matching trousers.
– 2 belts of smooth, high quality leather to match the shoe color.
– 10 pair socks, medium to fine, matching trousers, in solid colors or subtle pattern.

PROFESSIONAL WARDROBE FOR WOMEN:

- 2-6 suits, at least 2 in dark colors.
– 4-6 blouses, 2 white, 2 colored and 2 patterned.
– 2-3 pairs of dress shoes in black navy, dark brown to coordinate with hemline.
– 2 belts in smooth, high quality leather to match shoe color.
– 10 pairs hosiery to coordinate with hemline in sheer solid colors.

Your goal is to have 13 outfits in your professional wardrobe. That doesn’t mean 13 suits, it means mixing and matching different garments.

Before you make a list of what you need, start being sure of what you have already. Pull out everything in your closet that could possibly worn to work. Try everything on and make sure it fits well, that looks great on you and that it’s in good condition.

3.- START WITH YOUR CORE COLORS

Color is a powerful force in non verbal communication. It is the first thing people notice and react to because it is very emotional.  It is a powerful business tool that you do not want to overlook as you build your executive image.

Wearing your best colors is a clever move in managing your visual image. The right colors for you will enhance your natural coloring, make your skin glow, your eyes shine and your hair color have more depth.  the fashion colors this season may or may not be your friends.  Get your colors professionally done to ensure every bright, neutral or pastel color you put on is sending the message you want it to send.

Planning your wardrobe around your best neutral colors (core colors) gives you maximum flexibility. For successful wardrobe coordination, you will also need to include a range of basic colors (ties and shirts) to add some color to

The colors we choose to wear have an effect on how others perceive us:your outfit.

- The darker the color, the more authority the wearer.
– The higher the contrast between the color of the suit, shirt and tie, the more powerful your appearance will be.

4.- CORRECT FIT

The image you project will come as much from the style and color of your clothes as it will from the fit and the fabric. Correct fit is defined as the right size clothing for your body. The result should be clothes that drape well over your body and are comfortable. there should always be enough space between your body and your clothes so that yo can breath and move easily.

By being able to recognize the elements of good fit and what alterations can and cannot be carried out, you will be able to make sure you get the best fit possible.

If your budget is restricted to less expensive suits, the most important thing to get right is the fit. Clothes that fir well will not only flatter and enhance the wearer’s stature, but will also show an attitude of self-confidence and style.
Instead, a bad fit, wrinkled, too tight or too loose or too baggy clothes, are qualities that do not convey a professional or businesslike image. They show that the wearer has neglected to pay attention to the details, which can signal to others that you may not pay attention to the details of a job project.

5.- GROOMING

The effort you take with your personal grooming is just as important as the effort you take to select the clothes that most suit your figure or the colors the most flatter your personal coloring.

Grooming includes the conditions of what is worn and the wearer’s personal hygiene:

- The state and cleanliness of your hair, skin, teeth and nails.
– Your makeup application (women)
– Body odor
. Do not overdo your fragrance.
– the state and cleanliness of your clothes.

Poor grooming suggests that you have a low self-esteem, may lack self-awareness and be someone who may not pay attention to the finer points of a task.

HAIR

- Your hair frames your face. It should be clean, tidy and well styled according to your face shape and hair type.
– The style and color needs to be appropriate for the wearer’s age, position and profession. (Women)
– A low part is not a satisfactory way to disguise thinning hair. the lowest part should get directly above the outer edge of your eyebrow. Have your hair trimmed to a short style for the best results.
– Beards and mustaches have been proven to be a liability when working in professions where competency, credibility and trust are important.
– Excess hair should be trimmed from the nose, ears and neck edge.

MAKEUP AND ACCESSORIES

When you wear makeup in a professional environment people will take you more seriously.

Your makeup, jewelry and other accessories (as watches, briefcases, purses) are also one part of your overall executive image equation. Thus influencing factors that deserve your attention because they can complement or compete with your carefully selected outfit. A great handbag or briefcase can polish your outfit to perfection, but choose one, don’t carry both of them.
This also applies to your makeup. Wear makeup, but do not overdo it. It should be frech and should polish your look. Keep the adventurous accessories and dramatic makeup for your evening activities.

STYLE STRATEGIES

Let’s begin by talking about style.  Style is a quality, not a fungible.  Style is in the wearer, not in the clothes.  Style is spirit, comes from the within, is self-assured, is individualistic, is inimitable, original.  Style is substance. Style is elegance.

A person who is described as being elegant is graceful, dignified; has good taste, good behavior and great style. Generally when we think of elegance we think of a refined lifestyle completed with fine china and expensive jewelry. However, elegance is more about poise, respect and grace. You can increase or refine your everyday elegance with these tips:

 1. Always Choose Quality: Quality clothing not only looks and drapes better it lasts longer and holds its shape longer. Better quality clothing might cost more (although if you love to shop you can often find amazing quality items for less at consignment stores) but is certainly superior in the impact it has on your image. Good quality clothing has seams that are  finished, they have clean button holes, the patterns match, etc. You will spend more for fewer outfits but you will look so much better and want to wear them more.

 2. Focal Point: A focal point is a point of interest that draws attention. Depending on your fashion personality that focal point will be different. For example, a leopard print top could be a focal point for the Dramatic Fashion Personality, a set of beautiful pearls could be a focal point for the Romantic Fashion Personality and a unique pair of cowboy boots could be the focal point for the Sporty Fashion Personality. Each one of these fashion personalities is different but all can achieve elegance by choosing a focal point.

3. Unclutter Your Closet: Elegance cannot be found in clutter, which means elegance won’t come out of a cluttered closet. If you want to be well-dressed and achieve elegance, uncluttering your closet is the most important first step.  If you’re thinking, “I don’t know how to unclutter my closet”. Your first step is to learn which styles suit your body type,  how to mix and match them and your best colors.

 4. Always Wear Your Best Colors: No matter how well you’re dressed, if you’re wearing the wrong colors your whole outfit looks blah. That is why it is so important to wear colors that complement your skin tone, hair and eye color and not just wear colors you like. There are lots of colors in every palette – you’ll never have to choose a color you don’t like or be stuck to wearing a limited number of colors.  If you aren’t absolutely sure what colors are most flattering on you, having a professional color analysis is one of the best investments you’ll make in your wardrobe.

5. Treat Yourself Special: True elegance can only be achieved through good self-esteem. When you like who you are and you feel good about yourself that feeling of confidence is radiated to the world. Don’t confuse special self treatment with self-centeredness – they are totally opposite. Seeing yourself as special means treating yourself well – good food, exercise, friends, alone time etc.

WHAT WILL WE WEAR IN SPRING 2012?

BOLD PASTELS

Yes… pastels are getting the main feature in spring. These exuberants hues entice even those who shy away from paler versions.

Pair pastels with neutrals, or with more pastels if you want to add power!
Choose clothes with clean lines, and balance solid on solid if you choose intense shades hues. Pastels + pastels yell for neutrals on shoes and accessories.

PEPLUMS, FLORALS, RUFLES, LACES … ROMANTIC.

Those classic elements applied to clothes that are lean, geometric and exaggerated result in feminity pieces that replace dainty with drama.

Wether it is a dress, a jacket or a top, you need only one statement piece or pattern for maximum impact. You don’t need bold accessories or makeup.

Peplums trim the waist and enhance curves. florals are round line designs that tend to enlarge the part of the boy to which they are applied. Same with ruffles.

BOHO-CHIC

Boho-chic is a style of female fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences. “Boho” is an abbreviation of bohemian.”Chic” was borrowed from French in the late 19th century and has come to mean stylish or elegant.

So pair the boho item with some understated items in neutral colors T-shirt, blazer, shoes and accessories. Let the boho be the statement of the outfit.

PLEATS

Such feminine detailing, with just a trace of metallics and shine, generates sexiness that has a hint of reserve.

When worked in lightweight fabrics, pleats add volume without bulk, so figure issues are minimized.

Since the focus is the movement, especially in skirts, pair them with loose separates and keep hair easy.

HIGH WAISTS

To readopt this silhouette has a good reason. It is perfect for those who have a balanced vertical body type, or those who have short legs and long torso,a s they make legs look longer and they will be able to leave their blazer button undone. If you’ve been a a low-rise lover, you are in for a pleasant surprise!

High-waist demands to work in proportion: the waistband should always be visible. shirts should always be tucked in or cropped high.

Wide pants work best with a lean jacket; a long pencil skirt yells for a looser blouse.

reach for shoes with platforms.

PUT YOU UP TO A PEDESTAL

When a beautiful woman (or a handsome man) walks into a room, I may glance up for a moment. But when a confident woman/man walks into a room, it is entrancing. She is not usually the on in the plain black dress. She is the one in the interesting shirt and vintage skirt. The kind of person you want to immediately ask where she got what she wears. And she/he may not be the most stunningly gorgeous person you’ve ever seen. But she/he has that halo that make her/him interesting, fascinating.

Confidence is captivating, it is powerful and it does not fade. And that is endlessly more interesting than beauty.
You may not be able to be thinner, taller, smaller, prettier. But you can learn how to be confident.

Confidence is the one thing that you can fake and you will actually end up believing it.

The first and most important step to developing style is to project the kind of confidence that tells others that you respect yourself, love yourself, and dress up for yourself and nobody else.

Many of the most stylish women in the world have not been great beauties. They make us think they are beautiful simply by believing it themselves.
I truly admire those people who love themselves, even if they are not the standard beauty norm. They are the IMPERFECT ICONS. They embrace their imperfections in a way that they can even become their greatest strengths, definers of their character and spirit.

Confidence has nothing to do with aesthetics and everything to do with attitude.

Nothing suits a woman/man better than this air of self-assurance. We all have our insecurities, but we have to learn to move with style and confidence, which can be daunting, but learnt.

Think of those people who love themselves entirely, who embrace their quirks and flaws, they are comfortable with them. Think of Barbra Streisand and her Grecian nose. or Diane Keaton, who was never been a pretty woman in the past and has become a fashion icon at her sixties… Notice their heads are always held up and their flaws are always flaunted, never hidden or apologized for.

So, put yourself up on a pedestal before anyone is going to look up to you.

Pamper yourself. Get your hair and nails done, take long baths, wear great perfume… Start adoring yourself. Love yourself from the inside out, and slowly but surely you will become comfortable on that pedestal, and you will exude the kind of confidence that will make you stunning.

And what you wear up on that pedestal matters.

Your clothes, shoes, bags… and the way you wear them and the way you carry yourself speak volumes about you. About who you are, about how you feel about yourself, your direction in life.

A person, any person with a great personal style is powerful, fascinating, and yes… very intelligent.

They know who they are and what they want to project to the world.

And they know that what they put on in the morning will be the first thing that people will notice about them. It tells the world a bit of their story. And more important, your clothes affect how you feel about yourself throughout the day.

Think about this when you stand in front of your closet in the morning. Choose your clothes according to the YOU UP ON THE PEDESTAL. You will project an aura of confidence that everybody wants and nobody else can touch.

It is truly unique when you see that one person who is so different that you want to run and just be around them. They have that kind of hidden strength that attract others to them. You want to talk to them. You like the way they talk, the clothes they wear, how they wear them, the way they move. “You want to be them”.

Be that kind of person.

Anyone can be “in fashion”. All you have to do is follow the herd and abide by the rules of the season. Instead, a style icon breaks the rules and ignores the trends.

Style is personal. There is no herd to follow. There are no rules. There are no seasons. Style comes from within.

You have to be confident with who you are on your inside before being comfortable presenting yourself, your real YOU, to the outside world. And how you present yourself to the world is important. It can make or break careers, it can open or close doors, people will choose to get to know you better or not… it sounds unfair. But think a little bit about it, and you do it yourself every single time with people you meet everyday.

YOU WANT TO BECOME THAT STYLE ICON, BUT HAVE NO CLUE WHERE TO START FROM?

1. Learn your best colors
2. Learn the styles that best suit your body type
3. Build that desired wardrobe based ONLY with your best clothes.

Through a COLOR ANALYSIS CONSULTATION with Personal Image Company, you will learn that wearing your best range of colors will make you look younger, healthier, vibrant and energetic. You will understand how to enhance your natural coloring. You will discover the right colors for your clothes, your make-up, your hair, and even the best shapes for your accessories and hairstyles according to your face shape.

Discover your unique physical characteristics, your personal style preferences and how to make the most of your appearance through skillful styling and coordination strategies  through a STYLE ANALYSIS CONSULTATION with Personal Image Company. You will learn your vertical and your horizontal body type;  your best styles of collars, necklines, sleeves, cuffs, pockets, skirts, dresses, pants, jackets, vests, shorts, coats, swimwear and lingerie;   your best lengths for jackets, tops, skirts and dresses;  the Line and Design influences that work best for you and what silhouettes and focal points are your best.

With all this information, you will be able to build that closet that only contains amazing choices.  It is much easier to be inspired when you see five striking pieces than twenty-five pieces and twenty of them are just not remarkable.

DO YOUR CLOTHES REFLECT THE PERSON YOU ARE NOW?

Wether you like it or not, clothes tell the world many things about you:
– your personality, your attitude. How you dress and how you act are closely linked.
– how you see and/or feel about yourself, your self-esteem.
– your background, your associations. Clothes are a way of identifying yourself with a certain group (like a uniform).

Do your clothes reflect the person you are now? Psychologists say that the most powerful influence on our choice of clothing styles is the habits that we acquired as a child.

Sometimes, we unconsciously let our past govern our present. Maybe you still dress a bit shabby, though you feel confident about your style; or you still dress as you did when you were in your 20′s and you are in your 40′s now.
When your clothes no longer reflect your life, you feel uncomfortable with your appearance. If it is your case, the first thing to do is to learn where your clothes fit into your lifestyle and then learn how to change them.
Psychologists say that the most powerful influence on our choice of clothing is the habits that we acquired as a child.

The following questions may help you identify deep-rooted habits that may still be affecting your style today. There are no right or wrong answers to this quiz.

What it should do is show you that there are strong links between the way you were dressed as a child and your attitude toward clothes now.

1.- Do you think you have your own style of dressing?
2.- Is it a style that developed when you were a child?
3.- Were you dressed in the same style of clothes as your siblings?,
4.- Did your mother/father dictate your style of clothing?
5.- Were you free to buy your own clothes?
6.- Do you need to take someone with you when you shop for clothes?
7.- Do you dress to please yourself o other people?
8.- Are you worried about what your mother or siblings will think about your clothes when you have a family meeting?
9.- Was your mother/father particular about dressing you in specific clothes for different occasions?
10.- Did you have a favorite or most hated item?
11.- What was it and what did you liked or not about it?
12.- If you have children, do you dress them as you were dressed aas a child? Do you follow the same patterns that used on you?

You may now find that at one particular point in the past you made an effort to change your style. Maybe as a reaction against the way you were dressed as a child, or maybe because you feel freer to express your personality now. But perhaps after answering the quiz, you may find that you still have restrictions on the way you feel you should dress. Maybe your role as a mother or your profession continues to dictate the way you dress.

If you are unhappy with your wardrobe, resist the temptation to take your entire wardrobe away and go like crazy to the mall. Instead, try your clothes on and think about why you don’t like them: maybe is a wrong color for you, it may not suit at this stage of your life, or maybe it/they bring back some bad memories.

Make a list of order you plan to discard each item, so you can prioritize when it comes to purchasing new clothes. Give yourself at least 6 months to choose a new look and/or style for yourself. Start buying a few basic items that make you feel comfortable and suit your personality and lifestyle. Then gradually build up a wardrobe of clothes around these items.

HOW TO DRESS A LARGE BODY TYPE (MEN)

There’s a way to dress that flatters every body type, and large body types are no exception.

The triangle body type

This man has a shape that is larger below the waist than above, and is often accompanied by a sloping shoulder line. When selecting clothing styles, this man needs visual shoulder width to create a stronger upper body appearance.

The oval body type

This shape results from carrying excess weight. It is accompanied by a large stomach, full arms and legs. When dressing this body, design lines that slim and visually lengthen the body need to be selected to ensure the best possible appearance.

A perfect fit for clothes is essential. Proper fit is essential for dressing your body type.

One of the most important principles to follow when dressing any body type is to buy clothes that fit properly.

After adopting a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise, knowing your body type is one of the most important factors in making the most of your appearance. That’s because learning to work with what you have, enables you to capitalize on your strong points and minimize flaws.

Large body types vary widely. You may be tall with a massive frame or short and heavyset. Whether you’re fit and muscular or not so much, a large body type means that you’re of above average weight or size. If you fall into the latter category, you’ll also be quite wide around your torso.

Nearly every body type has its style challenges. If yours is large, one con is that dressing your body to its best advantage means you’ll be quite limited in terms of the colors and patterns you can get away with wearing. You also won’t be able to be as experimental with fashion trends as leaner men, and simply finding trendy clothes to suit your body type can be difficult.
On the plus side, retailers are increasingly stocking stylish clothes in larger sizes, so it is becoming easier than ever before to find nice clothing at any size. What’s more, classic, timeless pieces (the foundation of any man’s wardrobe) always look good on you, lending a distinguished appearance.

 Fit

One of the most important principles to follow when dressing any body type is to buy clothes that fit properly. This rule is particularly important if you are on the larger side. To show your body in its best light, select clothing that skims over your frame.

Your blazers should be a little longer in order to provide more coverage of your posterior. To further flatter your body and balance out your proportions, choose tops, blazers and outerwear with slightly structured shoulders, as these will give you an authoritative air and will direct attention to your face.

For bottom pieces, it’s best to opt for jeans and trousers with a forgiving, relaxed fit rather than straight (borderline skinny) alternatives. Pay attention to your hemlines and let your trousers fall close to the end of your heel to give the illusion of longer, leaner legs.

The most common mistake men with large body types make is thinking that baggy clothes will disguise excess pounds. Don’t fall into this trap. Oversize clothing has the opposite effect. Actually they add weight to a heavy frame.

Another common mistake large men make is to wear tight clothing in the hope that it will pull flesh in, when in fact, it will show every bulge. To figure out if a garment is too tight on you, take notice if the fabric pulls anywhere when you put it on. If it does, you’ll know you need to size up.

Colors And Patterns

The color palette and pattern scheme of the garments in your wardrobe deserves special attention if your body type is large. Generally, you’ll want to stick to a lot of dark colors, like dark grays, browns, navy, and black, as these shades visually reduce a larger body frame.

Color coordination in your ensembles is also important. Dark colored clothing should be worn over the areas of your body that protrude the most, such as your midsection or rear, for example. The hues and shades in your outfits should all come from the same color family (monochromatic), as too many contrasting shades will seem to cut you in half, emphasizing a large middle and making your legs seem shorter.

Light colored bottoms are also a big no-no for large men, so get rid of those as well (but keep your light tops if they can be worn underneath a darkly hued sweater or blazer).

Remember that anything that makes you look taller (you have a post in this blog about how to look taller and thinner,http://personalimagecompany.com/blog/?p=202 ) will also help you seem thinner.

Standing up straight, for example, can instantly make you look as though you’ve dropped a few pounds. You’ll also come across as being more confident, which is a trait that’s attractive in any man, no matter what his size.
To purge your wardrobe of anything that doesn’t make you look like a million bucks, begin by tossing anything with a loud, large pattern, as these pieces only emphasize your heavy set frame.
The same goes for attention-grabbing, brightly colored clothing.

Textures and styles

There are also a few garments large men should avoid altogether. Anything bulky should go, along with pleated pants, bulky wool sweaters and puffer vests as they add unnecessary padding to your frame.

Stick to single-breasted blazers in thinner fabrics, using them to disguise love handles and conceal a belly.
Just make sure your blazers have either a single vent or no vent if you have a large backside, as double-vented blazers call more attention to it and its size.

Tops with V-necks are also keepers, as they’ll draw the eye up, making your neck seem longer (notice the picture on your right.  The double V created with the shirt collar and the blazer). By contrast, turtlenecks will make your neck disappear, so refrain from wearing them.

Grooming and Accessories

Good grooming habits are another thing that will improve your appearance, regardless of your size. Find a barber who is able to work with your face shape and give you a haircut that makes your jawline appear more pronounced and puts the focus on your eyes.
At home, try parting your hair off-centre to help slenderize your face.

When it comes to facial hair, opt for a clean-shaven look or keep your beard cropped close to your face.

Finally, use accessories and cologne to give your ensembles a personal twist or to make a style statement. A cologne that mixes well with your body chemistry is a must-have, as women are very receptive to smell.

Invest in a great watch because size has absolutely nothing to do with style in the accessories department.

And remember that a great smile is the most appreciated accessory on your face.

ANIMAL PRINT

When the skies go gray, so do most wardrobes. There’s something about cold weather that inspires our most “blah” outfits, and we know we’re not the only ones. Take a look at the street on a winter day and you’ll see a sea of dark soldiers dressed in black, charcoal, and navy, which is exactly why we all need to break the pattern and try something new. Our suggestion: why not go for a pair of animal-print pants? You can keep things in the neutral family, while creating an outfit that’s anything but! In short, it’s the perfect response to a dismal forecast.

IMAGE … WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT?

What are we talking about when we talk about someone´s image?

Image is the perception held by the public about a person, a product or an organization. As you see, we talk about perception, which is the ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses. It is an intuitive understanding and insight.

You may be silent, but your image is talking continuously about who you are, how you feel about yourself, your values and direction in life.

We live in a fast moving world, with no time to make deep relationships with people we meet, so we make snap decisions based on a hunch of what we see and a bunch of what we feel about what we see. We make our decisions based on the outward characteristics linked to the inner qualities we assume them to reflect.

Enter a room, and it’s already happened. Few seconds have passed and you’ve been evaluated by everyone who saw you. They appraised your clothing and hairstyle. They noticed the way you carry yourself. They assessed your grooming and accessories. They observed as you greeted someone near the door. Few seconds have passed, and you have already made an indelible impression. Some people who watched you enter the room made a mental note to get to know you better; some others may have written you off.

Yes you are right … You read right! Your first impression is not only made by the clothes you wear and the amazing hairstyle you just got from the best stylist in town, but by your posture and body language, your polished look and confident walk, your accessories and facial expression. Your image is a total packet.

There are 5 essential areas of Image that can lead you to succeed or failure. Each area is equally important and cannot be ignored.

1- Inner Image. It is the sum and the substance who a person is. It has been formed as a result of their gender, experiences, cultural and social background, their education, spiritual foundation, confidence, self-esteem, values, goals and personality. Any component of the hidden image that is lacking or in need of attention has the power to diminish or override success in the other 4 areas of image and should be attended as a priority.

2- Assumed Image. what others know and/or expect of a person. Once a person is known, assumed image becomes their reputation.

3- Visual Image. It is the visual presentation such as dress, grooming, facial expression and posture. This area is most powerful when meeting someone, because it accounts for more than the half of the impression made on others.

4- Experienced Image. It is the experience (the feelings) which a person has of you. It involves the behavioral aspect such as etiquette, communication and people skills and body language.

5- Proven Image. It is the result of a person’s behavior, efforts and talents as proven over time. Is meeting and maintaining the expectations of others based on your reputation.

So, everybody can be groomed to make a stunning first impression, but it has to rely on a well built foundation to sustain that image over the time.

LET´S TALK ABOUT PERSONAL COLORING.

Sure, you CAN wear whatever color you want to. But if you want to look YOUR BEST, you’ll want to wear colors that harmonize with your natural coloring. It’s really that simple.

The impact of color should never be underestimated. Other than music and body language, color is the only form of expression that does not require words.
Psychologists have determined that color is the first thing noticed about a person.  Its impact is immediate and lasting.  Colors have a profound effect on how we look, how we feel, and how we are perceived by others.

Color is the aspect of the appearance of objects and light sources that may be described in terms of hue, lightness and saturation.

To ascertain a person´s best range of colors, we need to consider these 3 elements or dimensions:

1.- temperature: It´s often easier to determine if a color is warm rather than cool, so look for the presence or absence of yellow rather than the presence or absence of blue.

+ Warm and cool are relative terms that describe colors by reference to apparent temperature.

+ primary colors are red, yellow and blue. A color is described as warm when having more red or yellow in its composition. Warm colors project a feeling of warmth and are associated with fire, sunlight and energy. Cool colors are mainly based on a blue, grey or violet base tone. They are associated to coolness, serenity and assurance. A color is neutral when made of equal parts of warm and cool hues (true green).

+ Regarding a person´s natural coloring, temperature refers to skin tone, hair and eyes.  We will look for yellow or golden in a warm skin, and for pink or reddish in cool skins (more than blue).

2.- value: it means the lightness or darkness of a color.  we look at the overall appearance (skin, hair and eyes).

3.- Chroma or intensity: it´s a color´s clarity or saturation. Muted colors are usually heavier or grayer. Regarding to skin, we talk about glossy or matt skin.

All these three dimensions of color are essential in analyzing a person´s skin tone, hair color and eye color.

We are all unique. Each one of us have a different skin tone and different hair and eyes color which determine our very personal coloring.

Learning your best colors unlocks the mystery of what colors to wear every time you have to make a decision, wether it is shopping for new clothes, buying make-up or coloring your hair.

Take a look at the pictures underneath, maybe they will help you visualize the concepts explained above.

1.-temperature

- Skin: warm (yellowish.  Total absence of red or pink)

- Eyes temperature: warm (medium brown).

- Hair: dark brown (look at the roots on the right pic).  we can not identify if it’s warm or cool from this pic.

 2.- value

- Skin: medium

- Eyes: medium

- Hair: medium dark.

3.- intensity

- Skin: muted (not glossy)

- Eyes: muted (you can see these are not very bright eyes as they look kind of sad)

- Hair: n/a

So, if we know that she has an overall temperature that is warm, her value is medium and the intensity is muted, we can affirm that she needs a warm hair color (golden more than ashy), in medium value (not very light, like the pic on the right, not very dark).

Regarding her clothes, she will look her best in warm colors (more presence of red or yellow).
